James David Swan of Pine Bush NY, died on Monday October 18 at Kaplan Family Hospice Residence in Newburgh, NY. He was 53.
The son of James Swan and Christine Martin, he was born on December 31, 1956 in East Meadowbrook, N.Y. He attended Monroe Woodbury High School and graduated from Middletown High School in 1975. Jim married Jean Marie Mazza on August 7, 1993. Along with his family, he was a member of Infant Savior Church in Pine Bush. He was also a coach for Pine Bush Youth Football.
Jim was best known for his love of storytelling and his love and loyalty to his family and friends. He loved the underdog, and helped people when they most needed it. He was a great advocate, a good worker and was loved by all. He was a dedicated father, grandfather, uncle and brother whose life touched many.
A family statement reads: "Due ot the tremendous outpouring of love and support we have received over the last four years, we have such gratitude for everyone who has helped us through the greatest tragedy of our lives. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to the in-home hospice programs and the Kaplan family Residence of Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties. The Kaplan Family Residence has been the warmest and most helpful environment we have ever seen. They helped Jim pass away
peacefully and helped the family gain acceptance that his death is only the beginning of our journey through grief".
In addition to his loving wife, Jean at home, he is survived by his three daughters, Linsay Swan-Youngs and her husband Brian of Trumbull, CT, Amanda Swan of Oklahoma,City, Chelsea Martire and James V. Swan at home; one brother, Martin Swan, four sisters, Kim Gobeo and her husband David of Coral Springs, FL, Kelly Swan of Boca Raton, Kent Swan of West Palm Beach, FL, and Kristy Swan of Boca Raton, FL; and one beloved grandon, Kaegan Wesley Youngs.
Visitation hours are from 7 to 9 pm on Tuesday, October 19, 2010 and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm on Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 am on Thursday, October 21, 2010 at Church of the Infant Savior in Pine Bush. Cremation will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12250.
