James Albert Smith, a retired foreman for Conrail, died on Friday, January 4, 2013 at Middletown Park Rehabilitation Center. He was 86. The son of the late Herbert and Novella Dickson Smith, he was born on July 21, 1926 in Paterson, NJ. James proudly served his country in U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He married Rose Smith, who survives him at home.
James is also survived by his sons, Bruce James Smith, Bishop Robert Albert Smith and his wife, Pamela and stepdaughters, Jacqueline Zoldan and her children; Deirdra Fratto, Erik Weathers, Erika Weathers and Christopher Weathers; and Donna L. Smith and her companion Joseph Hunter and her children, Lisa Piccianninni, Raquel Smith and Kimberly Smith; six other grandchildren: Bruce James Smith, Jr, Keenyha Smith, Teyonka Poteat, Nyesha McCauley, Nyneeka Norbury and Robert A. Smith, Jr.; one sister, Jeanette Smith; eighteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Cremation will be private. A Memorial service will be announced at a later date.
Arrangements are under the direction of Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc.
There is no visitation, cremation was private.
