Jack W. Lounsbury, artist, musician, and college administrator, died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family at home at Wanaksink Lake on Sunday, February 19, 2017. He was 83.
The son of the late Earl and Eleanor Bagley Lounsbury, he was born July 7, 1933 in Middletown, NY. Jack came from a musical family and fostered his love of music from a young age and played both professionally and for fun. He received his bachelors degree from St. Lawrence University and worked as the Director of Student Financial Aid at Orange County Community College.
He grew up at Wanaksink Lake and enjoyed everything that went along with life at the lake. He was an avid sailor who loved the peace that came with being out on the water. He made Wanaksink his permanent residence in 1971 and served as an avid member of the board. His life was filled with music and beauty and he nearly always had a smile on his face. Jack will be remembered as a strong but sensitive man who touched many with his many talents.
Jack is survived by his life partner, Sharon Rose; two sons, Wayne Lounsbury and his wife Dorrie of Columbia, SC and Gregg Lounsbury and his wife Jody of Rock Hill, NY; brother Dennis Lounsbury and his wife Ann; and sister, Judy Perna and her husband Lou. He is also survived by his aunt Shirley Messenger of Goshen, his five grandchildren, Taryn and Kyle, Meghan and her husband Matt, Alyson and her fiance Arhm, and Lindsay and her husband A.J.; great-grandchildren Andi, Jacqueline, Olivia, and Camden and many loving family members. Jack is also survived by Sharon Rose’s children, Lori Sullivan and Katy Sullivan, Tamara Schimpf and her husband Erik and Scott Sullivan and his wife Angela; and grandchildren, Olivia Schimpf and Mason and Dylan Sullivan, all who cherished Jack as well.
He was predeceased by his parents, bother Robert Lounsbury, Sr and granddaughter, Lauren.
Visitation will be from 10am to 12pm on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Applebee- McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Celebration of Jack’s life will be held at 12 pm on Thursday at the funeral home, a private family burial will follow in the family plot in Bloomingburg Rural Cemetery in Bloomingburg, NY.
Memorial contributions in Jack’s name may be made to the Robert Van Etten , Jr. Memorial Fund c/o Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan, http://cfosny.org/our-funds/donor-advised/robert-van-etten-jr-fund/ which donates funds to families in need during medical crises.
