Obituary for Ismael Martin Velez
Ismael Velez passed away on August 15, 2022 at the age of 40 years old. Ismael, also called "Martin" was born on December 23, 1981 in the Bronx, NY and raised in Middletown, NY; but most recently resided in New York City and Jersey City. (Ismael) Martin passed away suddenly at his home in Jersey City due to a heart condition.
Martin was born to his parents Ismael (who has preceded Martin) and Myriam in Montefiore Hospital in Bronx, NY. He attended Goshen High School and later completed his GED. Anyone who knows Martin knows he consistently did the unexpected. He was a care-free spirit who lived one day at a time; marched to his own beat; and was difficult to forget. He was a nonconformist who made everyone laugh with his wit and humor. Martin was charming, charismatic, adventurous, with a heart of gold, infectious personality, and he had a contagious smile.
Ismael aka "Martin" is preceded in death by his father Ismael; paternal grandmother Casimira Ramirez; paternal grandfather Maximino Ramirez; maternal grandmother Rafaela Alicea; and his aunt Elena Tapia. Martin is survived by his mother Myriam Velez-Pettit and "Pops" John Pettit; sister Ecaterina Velez; Jonathon Pettit; and his sons Ismael "Messiah", Jaden, and Joel. His nephew Tyrone and nieces Kiely & Milan. Aunt Adele Alicea and Uncles Antonio "Tony", Hector, David, and Ernesto Alicea, and many cousins.
A celebration of life honoring Ismael "Martin" will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2022 from 12pm - 6pm at Shannen Park - 1918 Route 284; Slate Hill, NY 10973. The service will be conducted at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, monetary donations towards his children's future needs will be graciously accepted. Martin was a passionate Yankees fan. In his honor, please wear Yankee attire to the Celebration of Life.
The family sincerely Thanks each of you for your thoughtful consideration and expressions of sympathy at this time.
In God's grace.
