Obituary for Irene McManus Dailey
Irene McManus Dailey, a lifetime resident of  New Hampton, died on Thursday August 31 at St. Teresa´s Nursing Home in Middletown.  She was 98. The eldest child of the late Thomas and Catherine Gilhooley McManus she was born on July 2, 1908 in Staten Island, NY. Irene was a proud graduate of Mt. St. Vincent College. She was a retired school teacher for Mechanicstown Elementary School in Middletown. Irene was a dedicated member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church and the Carmelite Confraternity. She was also a member of the Blue Army in Washington, NJ. A family statement reads: “ “Big” ,as she was loving referred to by her family, was a deeply faithful and spiritual woman. Big was always there to take care of her family, and believed that we should all stick together. She  loved music, travel and her ice cream. We were very fortunate to have shared so much time with her. She will forever remind us to ‘waste not, want not’”.  Big is survived by her daughter, Andrea Medulan and her husband John of Alameda, CA; her son, Jack Dailey and his wife, Bonnie of Bloomingburg; her best friend and beloved sister Margaret Larkin; sister, Elizabeth O’Connor of Goshen; grandchildren, Melanie Perez, her husband Manuel and their children Max and Mia and Amy Carlson, her husband Mark and their children Leah and Kelly, all of Alameda, CA; Colleen Cullwell, her husband Brian and their children Sam and Erin of Kerhonkson; and Heather Ortiz, her husband Andrew and their children, Nicholas and Christian of Middletown  and sister-in-law, Gloria Anderson. Big is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, greatnieces and great nephews.  She was predeceased by her husband, Stanley; two brothers, John and James McManus, and sister Rose McManus Layton. Family and friends may call on Tuesday, September 5 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 6 at 10 am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church , 90 Euclid Avenue, Middletown. Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Irene’s family would like to thank the staff and clergy at St. Teresa’s Nursing Home for the exquisite care they provided for her. In keeping with her love of children and education, memorial contributions in Irene’s name may be made to either  The College of Mt. St. Vincent, Scholarship Fund, 6301 Riverdale Avenue, Riverdale, NY 10471or St. Joseph’s School, 149 Cottage St, Middletown, NY 10940.  Arrangements under the direction of Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc.
