Irene Mae Fischer, a lifetime resident of the area and beloved wife and mom, died after a lengthy illness on Thursday, October 17th at Orange Regional Medical Center. She was 79 years old.
Irene was born in Walden, NY on August 18, 1934, the daughter of the late Viola Williams and Peter Decker. She married Frank Fischer in 1972 and they enjoyed 41 happy years together in their home on Wanaksink Lake.
She is survived by her best friend and husband Frank, at home; her children, Irene Hill of Jacksonville, FL, Jessie Johnson and her husband William of Wallkill, NY, Deborah Hull and her husband Louis of Virginia Beach, VA, twin daughters, Sandra Tubbs of Liberty, NY and Susan Knapp and her husband Douglas of Campbell Hall, Patricia Decker and her husband Stan of Westtown, Grover C. “Butch”Tubbs IV of Rock Hill, Richard Fischer and his companion Rebecca of Livingston Manor, Frank Fischer and his wife Selina of Otisville and Randy Fischer and his wife Donna of Caliccon. She felt blessed with 61 grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. Irene was predeceased by one brother Raymond Decker and sister Marie Howell . She was also a mother to several foster children and many beloved pets.
Cremation was private. A Graveside Service will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at the family plot in Ridgebury Cemetery in Slate Hill, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Irene’s name may be made to the SPCA of Rock Hill, 104 Rock Hill Dr, Rock Hill, NY 12775.
