Obituary for Irene Gabrielle Wall
Irene Gabrielle Wall, a lifetime resident of the Middletown area died at Orange Regional Medical Center, surrounded by her family on Wednesday, October 24, 2018. Was 76.
The only child of Elizabeth Vetosky and Luigi Gabrielli, she was born on May 9, 1942 in Middletown. Irene graduated from Middletown High School in the class of 1961. She married Frank Jay Wall on June 1, 1963 in Middletown and they enjoyed 55 years of marriage and 60 years of friendship.
Irene spent 44 years with the school district she graduated from as an involved part of the clerical staff and many school projects. She loved the kids-many who affectionately referred to her as “Grandma’.
She instituted the Scholarship Night at the school and was always proud of the student’s accomplishments. During the 1980s, Irene served as a Wallkill Councilwoman where she advocated for the union workers, as well as her constituents. She loved politics and current events and her interest and opinions never waned.
She was a classy lady who loved her family and cherished her six grandchildren. She will be remembered for her love of animals, especially her four dogs, her great cooking and collection of recipes. She also enjoyed photography, kitchen gadgets and her Italian heritage and stories of growing up in “Little Italy” in Middletown.
Irene is survived by the love of her life, Frank, at home, her daughter Tracey Sorrentino of Slate Hill, her two sons, Frank Jr. and his wife Nancy, Andrew and his wife Kimberly-all of Middletown, and six loving grandchildren; Michael, Thomas, Jessica, Nicholas, Piper and Zoey, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 28, 2018 at the Funeral Home from 2 to 6 P.M. A Funeral Service of Remembrance will be celebrated on Monday, October 29 at 11 A.M. at the Funeral Home with Burial to follow at the Family Plot in Wallkill Cemetery, Middletown, New York.
Irene's family would like to thank Dr. Alexander Fruchter, Dr. Jeffrey Stewart and their staff for their outstanding care and support. In addition, they would also like to thank the outstanding nurses at ORMC for their amazing compassion and support for Irene and our family.
Donations may be made in her name to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties or The Middletown Humane Society.
