Irene Martin Decker, a longtime Middletown resident, died following a long illness on February 3, 2014 at Orange Regional Medical Center, with her loving daughters at her bedside. She was 80 years old.
One of the late Wardell and Gladys Loucks Martin’s eight children, Irene was born on September 13, 1933 in Lexington, NY. She spent her childhood on the family farm in Little Westkill, which inspired her lifelong love of animals, especially cats. She liked to crochet and was an avid reader who enjoyed murder mysteries. Her family was most important to her and she remained close to her sisters and daughters throughout her whole life.
She is survived by her daughters, Lisa Enright and her husband Martin of Walden and Laura Nemechek and her husband Peter of New Windsor, sisters Nettie Brink, Shirley Marrello and Genevieve Crist; Brothers, Larry and Curtis Martin; four grandsons, Jonathan and Clint Enright, Kyle and Matthew Nemechek as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Roderick and Wardell Jr. Martin.
Cremation will be private.
Memorial contributions in Irene’s name may be made to the Humane Society of one’s choice.
