A man of great resolve and strength of character, Hrusikesh Parida, MD, FAAFP, DTM & H, drew his final breath on January 16, 2023. He passed peacefully at home, surrounded by family.
Born in the village of Chandanpur, India, his medical career spanned three continents, beginning as a commissioned officer with the Indian Army Medical Corps to working with the National Health Service in the U.K. as a consultant geriatrician, where he founded a club for stroke victims in Lancaster, England, then relocating to the U.S., where he ran a successful practice in family medicine.
Dr. Parida was a resident of Middletown, NY, for over 40 years. During this time, he established the Department of Family Practice at Horton Memorial Hospital (now Garnet Health (Medical Center) and was President of the Orange County Medical Society from 1988-1989.
After retirement, Dr. Parida served on the New York State Board of Professional Medical Conduct for Physicians for 12 years and was also a member of the regional peer review committee of the American Medical Association.
Soon after becoming a Rotarian in 2001, Dr. Parida formed the International Medical Relief Foundation, an organization that distributes medical equipment and supplies to disaster-stricken and impoverished areas around the globe and acted as Chairman in the initial stages.
He was selected as a Cadre Specialist by Rotary International in 2008 and went on solo assignment to Ghana and Liberia at the age of 80 to report on two large-scale humanitarian projects.
Dr. Parida has been honored with the Hind Rattan (Jewel of India) award given to nonresident Indian contributors in acknowledgement of academic and social achievement abroad.
On a more personal note, he affirmed his commitment to health by jogging and swimming on a
regular basis and exercised his mind with crossword puzzles, Jeopardy, and Scrabble for as long
as he was able. He took pride in his garden and enjoyed having a dog by his side.
He is survived by his wife, acclaimed movie producer Solila Parida, his beloved children Smita
Parida and her husband Greg, Rita Parida and her husband Jason, and Abinash Parida and his
wife Gilda, as well as his grandchildren, Zubin, Lucky, Rikesh, and Sela...who are all his favorites.
A devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, he was an inspiration to all, setting the
standard and encouraging us to be our best. Thank you for filling our lives with extraordinary
experiences and giving us wonderful memories to look back on. We miss you so much!
A celebration of life is planned in the summer of 2023.
