Obituary for Helen P Forney Bishko
Helen P. Forney Bishko, lovingly known as Punkin to her friends and family, died on Friday, December 9, 2022 at her home with her family by her side. She was 77.
The daughter of the late Leonard and Helen Fredericks Forney, she was born on August 5, 1945 in New Kensington, PA. Punkin grew up in New Hampton, with her siblings and attended and graduated from Goshen Central Schools. She married Joseph Bishko, Sr. and they had one child, Joseph Bishko, Jr. Punkin worked as part of the custodial staff at Goshen Central Schools. She loved working at the school with the teachers and the students.
For her 40th birthday, Joe gifted Punkin a red corvette that she enjoyed driving around, taking to car shows and parades. She was involved with the Karolinka Polka dancers and supported the group for many years. She was a great friend and godmother to numerous children over the years as well as a second mom and grandmother to many. Punkin always took good care of her godchildren, offering support whenever they needed it. She was generous, compassionate and hard working. When they were in need, she served as a caregiver for both her younger brother and her mother. Punkin was the kind of friend that anyone would want in their corner.
Punkin is survived by her only son Joseph Bishko, Jr and his husband Duncan Reid of Arden, NC and sisters-in-law Eileen Forney of Warwick, Barbara Dumovich of Monroe, and Mary Jane Romansky of Garnerville, NY. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, James Bicskey, Caryn Bicskey and Robert Forney and Sherry Bishko, Allison Cristiano, Marie Bishko, John and Mark Romansky and their families as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, loving friends and former colleagues.
She was predeceased by her parents, brother Robert, sister Kathleen "Kitty" Bicskey and brother David Forney.
Cremation will be private. A Memorial visitation and Service will be held from 4 to 6 pm on Friday, December 16, 2022 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Service will begin at 5:30 pm at the funeral home. Burial of ashes will take place in the family plot in the spring.
