Obituary for Helen Lorraine Olsen
HELEN LORRAINE OLSEN
November 18, 1928 - August 23, 2014
Greenville, NY
Helen Lorraine Olsen, a recent resident of Greenville and formerly of Barnegat, NJ, died on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at Middletown Park Manor. She was 85.
The daughter of John and Margaret Smith Campbell, she was born on November 18, 1928 in Jersey City, NJ. She married Robert H. Olsen on June 9, 1951 in Richfield Park.
Helen was a special person who was cherished by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She enjoyed trips to Atlantic City with her husband and constant companion, Bob, where she always seemed to win!
There was nothing that brought her greater joy than spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her grandkids loved their Nana as she would play cards and board games with them, complete picture puzzles or simply just talk. She was fiercely competitive especially when playing card games with her husband and children.
As an administrative assistant, she possessed business skills which would match those of many corporate executives. She was kind, humble, compassionate, loyal, at times quite opinionated, and had a playful sense of humor and an infectious giggle. During her last few months of life as she fought a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease, she displayed remarkable courage, dignity and grace, which serve as an inspiration to all who loved her.
Helen is survived by her loving husband Robert H. Olsen, Sr. at home; and their children, Gary and his wife Lisa of Thornton, PA, Nancy Olsen and her partner Barbara Mason of Stuart, Fl, Carolyn Smith and her husband David of Greenville, NY, and Robert H. Olsen, Jr. and his wife Kathleen of Hillsborough, NJ. She is also survived by her sister, Carol Maurer and her husband Joseph of Manchester, NJ and 10 grandchildren, Jillian, Danielle, Amanda, Brendan, Matthew, Nicholas, Gaby, Scott, Ryan and Shannon and two great-grandchildren, Kayli and Calvin.
Helen was predeceased by five brothers, George, Jack, Eugene, Walter and James and one sister, Margaret Hanna and one grandchild, Jared in 1988.
