Helen “Bunny” Frances Dollinger of Greenville NY, died on Thursday April 5 at O.R.M.C. Horton Campus in Middletown, NY. She was 82.
The daughter of the late Michael and Jennie Torbush Nigro, she was born on January 3, 1925 in the Bronx, NY.
Helen moved to the area in the 1970's, and quickly became a very active member of the community. She worked as a payroll clerk for Orange County Home and Infirmary in Goshen until her retirement. She was a vital member of CSEA who was involved in union leadership activities. Helen brought her infinite energy to her many endeavors, and took her work very seriously. She was trained as a paralegal and held a real estate broker's license. She owned and operated NBD Realty in Goshen, and was a volunteer for Orange County Office of the Aging.
Helen brought all her children up to believe that nothing was impossible and they could do anything they wanted to do. She valued education and knowledge and encouraged her children’s educational accomplishments.
A family statement reads, "Mom was a supportive and loving person who gave us all strength. She was a devoted mother who felt that her children were her greatest gifts in life. Born in the Bronx, she was a die-hard Yankee fan, who was lucky enough to go to Yankee stadium every day as a girl. She leaves us all with a wealth of fond memories and her everlasting love”.
Helen is survived by four sons; Dr. Edward Bieniewicz and his wife Nancy of Long Island, Douglas Dollinger, Esq., of Middletown, Eugene Dollinger of Long Island, and Robert Dollinger and Donald of Binghamton; four daughters, Jennie Carlucci of Greenville, Laura Finch and her husband Bruce of Middletown, Helen Burdick and Susan Brhel, both of Binghamton, brother, Michael Nigro and his wife, Marie of Long Island; sisters, Ruth Gallagher of CA, Marie Kouirinis of Anapolis, MD, and Janet Melancon of Middletown; 17 grandchildren, Samantha and her husband Craig, Norah, Pia, Joseph, Layla, Michael, Annamarie, Jennifer and her husband Jason, Rocco and his wife, Mary, Sabrina and her husband Michael, Bobby, Jessica, Joseph, Melissa, John, and Jenilyn and Kristin; 6 great-grandchildren, Timothy, Rocco, Sabino, Raymond, Gianna and Mica; several nieces, nephews and cousins and many beloved friends.
She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Dollinger, one son, Joseph Anthony Dollinger, sister Louise Kramer and infant grandson, James George Carlucci. Family and friends are invited to call on Monday, April 9th from 9 to 10:45 am at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home 130 Highland Ave., Middletown.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 9 at 11:00 am at St. Josephs Roman Catholic Church, 149 Cottage Street, in Middletown, NY. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Middletown.
