Helen Binopolus of Westtown, NY died on Thursday, February 9, 2012 at Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown, NY. She was 93.
The daughter of the late Nicholas and Zachaina Salouhazis Kandaris she was born on May 1, 1918 in Manhattan, NY. Helen was originally from Manhattan. She married Christo Binopolis on June 22, 1941.
In the late 1950s they moved to the Bronx. She was a wonderful wife and mother who devoted her life to taking care of the ones she loved. Throughout the years, she raised her own children, a nephew, two granddaughters and cared for her mother and sister until their deaths. She loved nurturing, cooking and providing for her family. Helen was proud of her heritage and was an active member of the Greek Orthodox Church in Westchester and Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church in Middletown.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Pelagia "Lee" Gardianos and her husband, George of Westtown and Sandra Rumayor of Tappan and five grandchildren: Dr. Pericles "Perry", Christopher, Michael Gardianos, Dr. Christina Avillone and Eleni Rundle and their husbands, Aaron and Michael. She was predeceased by her husband, Christo on December 3, 1979: one son-in-law, Armand Rumayor and all of her siblings.
Visitation hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday, February 13, 2012 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Ave., Middletown, NY. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church, Goshen Turnpike, Middletown, NY. Fr. Chris Talleos will officiate. Burial will follow in the family plot in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Jackson Ave. and Saw Mill River Rd., Hastings-on-Hudson, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church, 2250 Goshen Turnpike, Middletown, NY 10941.
