Obituary for Harriett E. Clark
Harriett E. Clark, 97, of Middletown, New York passed away at home to be with the Lord on September 17, 2021.
Harriett was the daughter of Ralph W. Smith, Sr. and Ethel (Reed) Smith, and a member of the Bull and Wells families. She married Hector C. Clark on March 23, 1947.
A lifelong resident of Middletown; she graduated from Middletown High School in 1941 and Orange County Community College in 1973. She worked as a legal secretary for Walter Deisseroth, a secretary for Dr. Ruthberg, The Middletown Housing Authority and retired as Administrative Secretary for the Registrar’s Office of Orange County Community College.
Harriett volunteered her time to many organizations. She recently stepped down from Garnett Health after 58 years of service. She also volunteered for The Friends of Thrall. Encore, OCCC Alumni and numerous positions at United Presbyterian Church. She was honored as OCCC Alumni of the Year in 2006.
She enjoyed bowling, knitting, golfing, and reading.
Harriett is survived by her daughters, Barbara Truex and her husband, Robert (Skip) and Marion Schoonmaker. Her grandchildren, Scott Truex, Janet Deverso and her husband, Jason, and Jessica Schoonmaker. Her six great grandchildren, Colin, Brendon, and Jocelyn Truex; Savannah, Devin, and Sophia Deverso; along with many nieces, nephews, and wonderful friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, her brother, Ralph W. Smith, Jr. and his wife, Frances, and a niece, Dee Ann Smith.
The family would like to thank Dr. Dinsmore for the wonderful care he has provided for our mom, and we appreciate her caregivers from Hospice; Theresa, Suzanne, Melanie and Laura.
Friends may call at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc. on Monday, September 20 from 4 to 7 P.M. for Visitation.
A Service of Remembrance will take place on Tuesday, September 21 at 1 P.M.. at the Funeral Home, with a burial to follow at Wallkill Cemetery, Middletown, New York.
