Harold Kenneth Weigele, of Spanish Lakes Fairways, Fort Pierce, Fl, formerly of Middletown, died Monday, April 26, 2010 at the Indian River Medical Center in Vero beach. He was 86 years old. He was born October 10, 1923 in Kerhonkson, NY and moved to Spanish Lakes Fairways 10 years ago fro North Palm Beach, Fl.

Harold joined the City of Middletown Police Department on December 31, 1950 and retired as Chief of Police on June 13, 1987, a position he held for 17 years. Harold was a veteran of WWII, serving in the US Army Air Force. He was also an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus Council #48, a former member International Association of Chiefs of Police, life member of the NYS Association of Chiefs of Police, a charter member and Past President of the Police Chief's Association of Orange Co., a charter member of the Mid-Hudson Association of Chief's of Police, a member of the Peace Officer's Association of Orange County, a 50 year volunteer with McQuoid's Engine and Ladder Company and a member of the American Legion Post 151.

Harold is survived by his wife Calvina at home, daughter Nancy Bunting of Suitland, MD; two sons David of Middletown and Paul of Suitland, MD; one stepson, Thomas J. Elwood of Vero Beach, FL; sister Mary Burr of Sarasota, Fl.; two brothers Richard of Sarasota, Fl. and John of Albuquerque, NM; seven grandchildren Rebecca, John, Erin, Lisa, Tammy, Tracy and Tommy; and

six great-grand children Ryan, Richard, Marquez, John, Josh and Roan.

He was predeceased by his wife Marjorie Gorman Weigele, a son, Richard Joseph and a sister Helen Stock. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Monday, May 3, at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc 130 Highland Ave. Middletown, NY 10940. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Tuesday May 4 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church 90 Euclid Ave. Middletown. Burial will follow with Military Honors will follow in the family plot in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, 149 Cottage Street, Middletown, NY 10940.
