Grace G. Decker , wife of the late John R. Decker of New Hampton, passed away Thursday, January 2nd in Goshen after a brief illness. Born April 30, 1925, in Yonkers to Ernest DePolito and Theresa Arute. She was 88.
Married to John for over 50 years before his death in 2007. Together they raised three children; John, Robert and Theresa in the Slate Hill area. Grace was a homemaker and retired from Gen-Pak Industries. She loved her family, especially spending time with her grandchildren. She was proud and delighted with each one. She enjoyed long rides in the country, dancing at South of the Border,Port Jervis, yardsales, raising her Pomeranians and Sunday family spaghetti dinners and fond memories of life on the Greenville and Westtown farms.
She is survived by her son, John E.A. and wife Grace of New Hampton, daughter, Theresa Pogozelski and husband Steve of Johnson. Four grandchildren; Michael and Sean of New Hampton and Olivia and Jillian of Johnson, N.Y.
The family would also like to thank her niece Karen DePolito for her love and care during her illness. In addition to her husband John, she was also predeceased by her son Robert, three brothers, Thomas, Ernest and Robert DePolito and four sisters, Christine Nelson, Carmela Sanders, Florence Tight and Dorothy Crider.
Visitation hours are 5-8 P.M. on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home Inc., 130 Highland Ave., Middletown, N.Y. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at 11 A.M. at Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church, 626 County Rte. 22 (South Centerville) Middletown, N.Y.
Rev. Fr. Michael Cedro will officiate.
Burial will be in the family plot at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Port Jervis, N.Y.
Memorial contributions in Grace’s name, may be made to Slate Hill Fire Department, 1969 Rte. 284, Slate Hill, N.Y. 10973.
Arrangements are under the direction of Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home.
