Obituary for Grace Carmela Sorino
Grace Carmela Sorino, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away following a long
illness on Sunday, March 19, 2017 with her family by her side. She was 87.
Born July 16, 1929 in Brooklyn NY, Grace was the daughter of the late Louis and Jennie LaMonica Siamarro.. She married Pasquale “Pat” Sorino on January 11, 1948 at St. Joseph’s Church in Middletown, NY where they recently celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary. Grace worked as a typist for the O&W railroad and Classey leather goods in Middletown.
She was a vivacious and dedicated woman who volunteered her time for two of the many after school youth clubs.(Instituted by William Carter.) Her favorite was the Rock and Roll dance club held at Mechanicstown School which she directed. Kids could audition and be selected to become one of the twenty-four "Rock Dolls" to perform at the annual variety show and various others, Kiwanis, Castle Point Veterans, local nursing homes. The second was the Bloomingburg roller skating club which she and other volunteers would sometimes bus as many as 200 kids. Grace's love and passion for these kids along with her own children who were a part of the youth clubs as well, brought her such joy. She was respected for her warmth and kindness.
Grace was a talented and dedicated wife and mother who always spoke her mind while never losing her sense of humor. She was loved by her family more than words can say.Grace enjoyed dancing roller skating, sewing, knitting and playing Bingo.
Grace is survived by her loving family, her husband Pat at home; sons, Patrick of Evergreen,
CO and Frank of Middletown and his partner Joanna; her daughters, Anne Sorino and
Joann Huckvale of Croton on Hudson, Linda Sesa of Chalfont, PA and Jennie Sorino and her husband Jeff Dolfi of Saratoga springs, NY. She is also survived by her sister, Florence
White of Bracey, VA, her four grandchildren, Carmine, Rebecca, Christina, and Rick
and seven great-grandchildren, McCready, Declan, Daniel, Madison,
Gianna, Georgia and Jules. Grace is also survived by nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm on Wednesday, March 22 , 2017 at Applebee-McPhillips
Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Funeral Mass will
be celebrated at 11:00 am on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Church, 149
Cottage Street Middletown, NY. Burial will follow in the family plot in St.
Joseph’s Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Applebee-McPhillilps
