Gloria Gobeo Mayer, a lifetime area resident, joined her many beloved relatives and friends in Heaven with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 12, 2021. She was 93.
The daughter of the late Charles and Faustina Di Rubo Gobeo, she was born on June 26, 1927 in Middletown, NY. Gloria grew up in Middletown, the daughter of proud, hard- working immigrant parents. She married James E. Mayer and had two children together. She was a good Mom who cherished her children and doted on them as they grew up. Gloria was an animal lover. She enjoyed gardening and loved rare black dahlias and morning glories. Gloria created beautiful artwork and loved to dance. Kind and gentle, she always stayed down to earth and was a loving mother, sister and friend.
Gloria is survived by her daughter June Mayer of Middletown and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband James and her beloved son, Cpl. Mark Mayer, brothers, Louis, Charles (Chubby) and Anthony Gobeo, and sister Verona McCarthy. She was also left to cherish the many good memories she shared with her companion Fred Weinert and good friend Lenny Marino.
Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 pm on Friday, January 15, 2021 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Funeral Service of Remembrance will be held at 7:15 pm at the funeral home, Fr. Nicholas Blackwell will officiate. Burial will be private in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Middletown, NY.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Christine and 2 Mikes at Southeast Towers and special appreciation to Alissa, Crystal and Bridget, home care aids for their patience and dedication with Gloria.
