GIUSEPPINA CARUSO-LAGANO

Giuseppina Caruso-Lagano of Middletown, New York entered into eternal rest on August 19, 2018. The daughter of Antonio and Filomena Sorice, she was born on September 20, 1921 in Avella, Italy. The second of ten children, Giuseppina immigrated to the United States in September ,1960. She was the widow of Andre Caruso, who pre-deceased her in 1943. He served in the Italian Army in World War II. She was also the widow of Jimmy Lagano. Giuseppina worked very hard to raise her only son, Giuseppino Caruso, who pre-deceased her in August 2013. Prior coming to the United States, she worked for the school in her hometown (Avella).
Survivors include her daughter in-law, Rusario Caruso; brother, Sammy Sorice and his wife, Nina of Ramsey, New Jersey; sisters, Anna Cantoli and husband, Joseph of Middletown, Angie Vecchino of Sloatsburg, New York, Rose Bassano and husband, John of Goshen, New York; sister-in-law, Antoinette Sorice of Middletown; three grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Antonio and Filomena Sorice and son, Giuseppe Caruso, Giusepppino, she was also pre-deceased by her brothers, Pellegrino Sorice, Giuseppo Sorice, Frank R. Sorice; sisters, Maria Abate and Carmela Tondo. Giuseppina will be missed by family and friends, especially her neighbor, Lucia Siena and daughter, Nancy. Thank you for being a true friend to “Aunt Peppinella.”
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 24, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 149 Cottage Street, Middletown, NY. Entombment will follow.
