Geraldine (Dean) Dodd, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother sadly passed away on Thursday, August15, 2024 at the age of 96.
Dean was born on October 13, 1927 in Pine Bush, New York, where she spent her formative years and graduated from Pine Bush High School. During World War II, Dean worked as a highly skilled factory seamstress helping with the war effort. After cherishing her time as a stay at home mother, Dean was employed with the Middletown School District as a Nurse’s Aide.
Later, Dean obtained a retail position at Kassel Brothers, a high-end clothing store, where she worked her way up to Manager of the Men’s Suits Department. After closing their doors in 1992, Dean began working at Seven Seeds Cafe, a family-owned business where she worked for nine years before retiring.
Dean was predeceased by her parents Reuben H. and Helen Gillespie, and her brothers Reuben and Benjamin. Geraldine is survived by her son Dennis Dodd (Doreen), her daughters’ Denise Barringer (Kevin) and Donna Roman. She was the loving grandmother of seven grandchildren; Christa Severy (Eric), Jenna Dodd (Dave), Cori Attali (Steve), Christopher Barringer (Nicole), Jordon Roman (Kathy), Katelyn Johnson (Evan), and Khara Roman. Dean was the very proud great grandmother (Gigi) of eight great grandchildren; Jack, Owen, Kailey, Makenna, Lily, Blake, Nicholas, Leo and one on the way! Dean was adored by her cousins, nieces and nephews.
Throughout her life, Dean was an avid baker and loved to bake pies for her family. A holiday was never complete without Gigi’s delicious homemade pies. As a talented seamstress, Dean made many of her childrens’ clothes, Halloween costumes and was the family’s go-to tailor.
She loved watching sports and attended countless of her grandchildrens’ and great grandchildrens’ sporting events. She was full of trivia knowledge, solving daily crossword puzzles and faithfully watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. Dean was a wonderful, loving mother and grandmother who cared deeply for her family by offering support, wisdom and love in abundance. She will be missed beyond measure.
A private funeral service will be held for family and close friends.
