Obituary for George S Kolbe
Dr. George S. Kolbe, age 83, passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2018, at his home in Middletown, New York.
Dr. Kolbe was born on February 8, 1935 in New York, NY to parents, Henry and Marion Kolbe. He graduated from The University of Vermont in 1956 where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. He enlisted in the United States Army, serving from 1957- 1959 . He was stationed in Paris, France and ascended to the rank of Captain. Following his service in the U.S. Army, Dr. Kolbe received his Masters of Public Administration from New York University. He worked for the city of Philadelphia as an Efficiency Expert before earning his Doctorate of Dental Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania in 1969. After graduating from Dental School, Dr. Kolbe completed his residency at Grasslands Hospital in White Plains, New York. Upon completion, Dr. Kolbe moved his family to Middletown, New York where he dedicated over 45 years to his dental practice. Second only to his family, his patient relationships provided him with a fulfillment of joy and pride that he was forever grateful for.
Dr. Kolbe will fondly be remembered as a kind, generous, intelligent man with a big heart. He loved to discuss politics and history and was an avid reader and traveler. He was always quick to tell a story, tell a joke that wasn't as funny as he thought, or share his big smile. Dr. Kolbe could often be found pursuing his other passions on the golf course or tennis court.
Dr. Kolbe is survived by his loving wife, Dannielle Kolbe ( formerly Barberio), sons George Kolbe Jr. and wife Katie of Robbinsville, NJ and Henry Kolbe and wife Alex of Montclair, New Jersey; daughters Lindsey Kubera and husband Michael of Buffalo,New York, and Dina Barberio of Westport ,CT. Surviving siblings include, Dr. Bruce Kolbe and his wife Jayne of Sturbridge MA, and Harry Kolbe of New York, New York. He will be remembered with love and laughter by his 8 grandchildren: Alexis, Skyler, Jack, Henry, Sasha, Sophie, Nate, and Ryan and several nieces and nephews. His scratches will be missed by his beloved dog, Stratton and kitten, Maya.
A visitation will be held from 11am - 12pm on Saturday, October 27th at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY. A celebration of his life will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks to please consider making a donation to the Alzheimer's Association or Blooming Grove Humane Society.
