Middetown, NY

George R. McCloskey III, a longtime resident of Middletown, died on Monday, January 11, 2010 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Horton Campus in Middletown. He was 59.

The only son of George R. and Dorothy J. Hyland McCloskey, Jr., he was born on July 23, 1950 in Queens. George married Lori Riso on August 5, 1972 in St. Paul’s Church in Ramsey, N.J. He worked as a Director of Resident Services for Hebrew Hospital Home in Valhalla, NY. He was a member of St. Joseph's parish and was an avid member of the local area soccer community.

George was a great husband and devoted father who lived for his kids. He was well liked by everyone and had a gift for writing. Although he was very soft spoken, George had a great sense of humor.

He is survived by his wife Lori at home and three sons, Scott and his wife Deanna of Douglassville, PA; George of Sacramento, CA and Timothy of Fort Lee, NJ; and one daughter, Tara Holmes and her husband Patrick of Roxboro, NC. He was also a proud grandfather to five grandchildren, Everett, Jackson, Ava, Keeghan and Brady.

Visitation hours are from 6 to 9 pm onThursday, January 14, 2010 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Friday, January 15, 2010 at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, 149 Cottage Street, Middletown, NY 10940. Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Middletown.
