George L. Lattimer, owner of Latimer Potato Farm and  lifelong resident of New Hampton entered into rest at his home on January 4, 2021, at the age of 103, surrounded by his devoted family.

George was born on June 4, 1917 in Middletown, NY, the only son of John R. Lattimer and Eva Weygant Lattimer. He started driving trucks of lettuce to NYC at the age of 16. On Christmas Eve of 1942, he went to work as a mechanic for McBrides in Goshen, NY and then on April 4, 1948 he went to work for Dairylea in Middletown, NY driving tractors trailers. His first truck was a 1946 Mack LJ. He continued at Dairylea until the age of 63. George also worked on his farm growing potatoes and raising beef cows, while still holding his job at the milk company. George was a dedicated husband, father, grandparent, neighbor and friend to all he knew.  He loved spending time with family, his firematic colleagues, growing potatoes and corn as well as riding his many tractors. George was a 58 year member of the New Hampton Fire Company. He was named Honorary Chief in 2007 and Fire Policeman of the year in 2012. He attended the monthly meetings and valued the many friends he made while serving the community.

George is survived by his three children; William H. Lattimer of Middletown, Richard A. Lattimer and Jean-Anne of Hornell, N.Y. and Linda Greenhill- Pitre (Stephen) of New Hampton, N.Y. , and his cherished grandchildren: Kim Lattimer and Frank, Karen Digen (Andrew), Clay Lattimer(Michelle), Corey Lattimer(Cindy),Brenda O’Connell (Bill), Nancy Lattimer, Billy Lattimer (Michelle),Bonnie Licaldi(Chris), Ryan Greenhill (Nancy), Dustin Greenhill, Nick and Diana Pitre as well as 21 great grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren; honorary sons, Paul Lattimer and William Raymond and special niece Shirley Garcia as well as many other nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Dorothy Cosner Lattimer, granddaughter, Tammy Swingle, grandson-in-law, Dennis McCombs, daughter-in-law Evelyn Lattimer, great grandson Joseph O’Connell and great granddaughter Jaqualyn O’Connell.

The family would like to extend their gratitude for the amazing care provided their father by his nurse Jacqueline Augusto from Archcare and Dr. Viray and his staff. They all treated Dad with the utmost dignity and respect. Visitation will take place on Friday January 8, 2021 from 3-7pm at the Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, 130 Highland Ave, Middletown, N.Y. A funeral service will be private. A Graveside Service will take place at Wallkill Cemetery, 160 Midway Rd. Middletown, N.Y. on Saturday January 9th,2021, at 11:15 am, social distancing and facial coverings are required.
