Obituary for George J. Vendura, Sr.
George J. Vendura, Sr., a longtime area resident died Thursday, February 9, 2006 at Bayonette Point Hospital in New Port Richey, FL. He was 84 years old.

The son of the late John and Antoinette Alfano Ventura, George was born October 5, 1921 in Bronx, NY.

A Veteran of WWII, he proudly served his Country in the United States Army.

A family statement reads, “George was a man of faith, courage, and love. He was a devoted husband, father, and super grandparent. He had the gift of storytelling that could keep children and adults awed and entertained. Known as the pepper king, he spent time gardening, perfecting chili peppers. The hotter, the better. He’ll be missed by all of us, including China, his faithful pet.”

George is survived by his loving wife, Rita, at home; two sons George J. Vendura, Sr. and his wife, Jeannie, of Carlisle, Mass., Lawrence and his wife, Lina, of Bloomingburg; two daughters, Sister Nancy Vendura, CSJ of Maybrook, Rita Cortese and her husband, Paul, of Otisville; five grandchildren Lauren Vendura, Lisa Vendura, Luke Vendura, Paul Cortese, Angela Cortese; and one sister Rita Agi of Bronx, NY.

He was predeceased by six brothers and two sisters.

Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday February 14th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc. 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 15th at 11 am at Our Lady of Assumption in Bloomingburg.

Burial will follow in the family plot in Holy Name Cemetery, Otisville.

Memorial contributions in George’s name may be made to Tiny Hands in Need of Kindness, 814 Abbey Avenue, Maybrook, New York 12543.
