Obituary for George Henry Herr
George Henry Herr, Army veteran and retired FDNY fireman, passed away in his lakeside home on March 14, 2021.
The son of Henry and Dorothy Herr was born July 30, 1928 in Hoboken, NJ. He lived a vibrant and mischievous childhood with his brother Francis in the Bronx before the family moved to a dairy farm in Andes, NY. He was drafted to the Korean War where he served as a sergeant first class in the army before moving back home and meeting his wife Adelaide a few years later. George and Adelaide were wed on June 25, 1955 and were blessed with 58 years of marriage before Adelaide passed in March of 2014. In 1960, George joined the FDNY as a firefighter where he served for 25 years. Some years later George and Adelaide, avid dog lovers, moved full time to the Wolf Lake, NY home George built with the help of a friend and his children where he would live out the rest of his life doing what he loved: chopping wood, playing cards(and winning), riding the ATV, drinking coffee, eating apple pie and ice cream, and feeding the deer.
George is survived by his three children Susan Herr, Nancy and her husband Robert Wanczowski, and Andrew and his wife Michelle Herr, and granddaughter Jacqueline Albertson.
