George Ardito, a longtime area resident, passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at his home in Thompson Ridge, NY.
He was 86 years old. The son of the late Alice Tielli and James Ardito, he was born on August 11, 1935 in Dunmore, PA.
A professional musician from an early age, he joined the Army Reserves following his high school graduation. He then met and married Suzanne, his beloved wife of 52 years. Early in his career, they moved to Liberty, NY, where he was a band
leader for the Raleigh Hotel. He began his long career as a music teacher, band leader, and professor of music history within the New York State Department of Corrections. Following his retirement, he was self-employment for another 19
years with Custom Video, a video production company he co-owned with his wife, Suzanne.
George loved reading and learning about everything from philosophy, religion, history, music, science, and art.
Most would agree he was a natural-born teacher.His favorite music was jazz, which he studied and enjoyed extensively, and
throughout his life played many instruments.
Following his time as a volunteer, he was twice elected President of The Sullivan County Historical Society in
Hurleyville, NY. He was a Buddhist.
Survivors include his son, James Ardito and his wife, Julie of Thompson Ridge, NY; his daughter Alisa Stilwell and her husband Warren of Middletown, NY; his brother Paul Ardito and his wife Laura of Dunmore, PA; his grandchildren Taylor
Ardito, Bayeigh Ardito, Brady Ardito, Jackson Stilwell, and Ava Stilwell; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Suzanne King Ardito, his brother Anthony Ardito, and his grandson Trey Stilwell.
A Celebration of Life will be held privately following cremation.
Memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
