Middletown, NY Genoveffa Ascolese, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, entered into rest following a long illness at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was 80.
The daughter of the late Francesco and Caterina Ruggiero, she was born on August 15, 1928 in San Valentino, Torio, Salerno, Italy. Genoveffa married Eugenio Ascolese August 26, 1956 in Italy, and moved to the Middletown area in 1971 from Brooklyn. She owned and operated Gino’s Luncheonette in Middletown with her husband for 37 years. She was a faithful member of St. Joseph’s R.C. Church in Middletown. An honest, hard-working and loving woman, she was always present for her grandchildren.Â
Affectionately called Nanny, her care extended beyond family to anyone in need. Her doors and heart were open to all. Â
In addition to her loving husband, Gino at home, Genoveffa is survived by her devoted daughter Raffaela and sons Valentino and Anthony; son-in-law;Â sisters Mary DeFillippis and Grace DiPalma; brother Antonio Ruggiero and eight cherished grandchildren, Vincent, Antonietta, Eugenio, Genevieve, Bianca, Juliana, Antonio and Lorenzo as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation hours will be held on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 am on Thursday, July 23, 2009 at St. Joseph’s R.C. Church, Cottage Street, Middletown, NY. Entombment will follow in the family mausoleum in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Middletown.
