Genevieve (Jean) Governale of Middletown , died on Saturday July 23 at Middletown Park Manor. She was 95.
The daughter of the late Francesco and Biogia Gervosio Cannella, she was born on August 6, 1915 in New York City.
She married Jerome V. Governale, and they shared over 60 years of marriage together until his death in 1986. A 30 year resident of the area, Genevieve was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Middletown. She was one of the oldest members of the Greenville NY Seniors Club. Her Wednesday afternoon card game was the highlight of her week. Her "can-do" attitude was legendary in her family; once she put her mind to something, there was nothing she could not accomplish. She will be remembered for her tremendous love and support. Genevieve was always a lady; classy, upbeat and stylish. She was always color-coordinated, even during her recent illness.
She is survived by her son, Jerome Governale of Morganville, NJ, her daughter, Genevieve Sulak, and her husband N. Charles Schwabacher of Middletown; sister, Lucille Nicosia of Ilandia, NY; three grandchildren, Robbie, Jessica and Jeremy and three great-grandchildren, Bella, Max and Alex; as well as many dear friends and relatives who will cherish her memory.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm on Thursday, July 7, 2011 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Avenue,
Middletown, NY 10940. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 am on Friday, July 8, 2011 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 90 Euclid Avenue, Middletown, NY. Burial will follow in the family plot in Holy Mount Cemetery, 53 Winterhill Rd, Tuckahoe, NY 10707.Arrangemnets are under the direction of Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc.
