Gene “Big Show” Lawrence, Jr., a lifetime area resident, died on Thursday, April 20, 2006 in the Town of Mt. Hope as the result of a motorcycle accident. He was 42.

The son of Eugene G. and Ann Galietta-Lawrence, he was born on March 9, 1964 in Newburgh, NY. He attended Newburgh Free Academy where he was a football Quarterback. He graduated NFA in 1982. Gene was known as “The Golden Boy” a name that was given to him after his father by Bo Gill.

On November 12, 1983, Gene married the love of his life, V. Holly Krajewski, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Middletown. He was the previous owner of Kory’s Pools in Bullville. Gene worked as a Network Specialist for the Pine Bush School system, and previously for Orange County DSS and RCLS.

He was an avid sportsman who played modified softball for the 101 pub. Children were an essential part of his life, as he and his wife were foster parents. He coached Middletown Little League and Elks’ Basketball. He also worked security for Middletown High School Sporting events. He was the Assistant Director of Wurtsboro HOG. Gene was an awesome husband and father; he touched the lives of all who knew him. He was everyone’s “Dad” who made the best chocolate chip pancakes. He was a passionate “Harley Rider”. Riding was a part of his life that he loved to share with his wife and fellow HOG members.

He is survived by his loving wife, Holly, his son, Jordan Michael and daughter, Taylor Marie, all at home, his parents of Newburgh, sister, Melissa Southworth and her husband Brian of Newburgh brother, Matthew and his wife Liz of Newburgh, cousin Stephanie Galietta of NC, mother and father in law, Virginia and Buddy Krajewski, sisters-in-law, Yvonne Howard and her husband Michael of Huntington, NY, Terry Bassett and her husband David of Round Rock, TX, and Marie Christner and her husband Bill of Middletown, Karen Swift of Tenn, of Middletown brother-in-law John Susan Illanovsky of Middletown, cousin Michelle Cassidy of Middletown, foster children, Cliff, J.J., Alberry, Moe, Jessica, and baby Keylon. Gene is also survived by many nieces and nephews; Brian Jr, Evan, Zachary, Kaela, Kylie, Matthew Jr, Catherine, John Francis, Jessica, Brianne, John Paul, Nicole, Kristopher, Matthew, Connor, Parker, Kris, Aimee, Phylicia, Carly and many special loving friends.

Friends may call on Sunday, April 23, 2006 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, April 24, 2006 at 11 am at St. Joseph’s R.C. Chuch, 149 Cottage Street, Middletown. Cremation will follow at Cedar Hill Crematory, Middle Hope.

In lieu of flowers, Gene’s family has requested memorial contributions in his name to be made to The Lawrence Children’s Schooling Fund, P.O. Box 353, New Hampton, NY 10958.
