GARY THADDEUS POLLARO

June 22, 1945 - October 28, 2011

New Hampton, NY

Gary Thaddeus Pollaro, formerly of New Hampton, NY, and more recently of Tafton, PA, died after a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer surrounded by his family on Friday, October 28, 2011 at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan, NY. He was 66.

Born on June 22, 1945 to Nicholas and Helen Platek Pollaro in the Bronx, NY, he was one of four children. On March 22, 1970, he married Jean Savino in the Bronx. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Gary worked for Con Edison as a manger and later was a business agent for Local 1-2. He loved his union job. He had a good work ethic and a great sense of responsibility.

Gary was an avid hobbyist. He collected guns, trains, and was an excellent photographer. We’ll miss his great sense of humor and his easy going manner.

Gary is survived by his dedicated and loving wife, Jean; his children, Jennifer Pollaro and Michele Whipland and her husband, Jason; his mother, Helen and mother-in-law, Theresa Savino; one sister, Irene Morganski; two brothers, Edward and Ronald Pollaro and was blessed with four grandchildren: Steven, Ariel, Kevin James and Sage (who all benefited from his passion for photography and model trains).

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 1 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. A funeral service will be celebrated at 8 p.m. with Father Dennis Nikolic and closing with military honors.

Memorial contributions can be made to The Lustgarten Foundation, 1111 Stewart Avenue, BethPage, NY 11714.

Funeral arrangements under the direction of Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY; www.applebeemcphillips.com
