Obituary for Fredrick J Slanovec

We are deeply saddened and heartbroken to announce the sudden passing of Fredrick J. Slanovec on September 4th, 2023. He was 41 years of age. Fredrick was predeceased by his father, Fredrick H. Slanovec and his brother, Craig Matthew Slanovec. He is survived by his loving mother, Margaret (Maggie) Slanovec, his wife, Jacqueline, his son, Ryan Fredrick Slanovec, as well as his stepdaughters, Alexandria Glidden, Isabella and Ava Messina and step-grandson, Levi Fredrick Harford. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces, and godchildren. He also has left behind an army of loving, supportive friends.

Fred graduated from Minisink Valley High School and was a tremendous athlete. He was inducted into the Minisink Valley Hall of Fame for his outstanding football accomplishments. He attended the Merchant Marine Academy for a brief time. He worked as a Correction Officer for Orange County and for the Mount Hope Police Department before finding his home with the City of Middletown Police Department. Fred dedicated 18 years of his life as police officer and detective with the force. Along with Policeman of the Year and Detective of the Year awards, he received numerous Certificates of Merit, Commendations, Life Saving awards and a myriad of accolades. He loved his job and was excellent in his performance. He was well respected by his colleagues and members of the Law Enforcement community.

Fred was a simple man of large stature and lived his life in a large way. Everything he did was with great intensity. He lived and loved hard. The greatest love of his life was his family, especially all of his children. His son, Ryan was his heart and he deeply loved his step-daughters and grandson. Fred had countless friends whom he loved dearly. He enjoyed music, boating, camping, fishing, football, and basketball along with many other interests. He will be terribly missed by his family, friends and colleagues but remembered with tremendous love, laughter, and admiration.

A Visitation will be on Monday, September 11, 2023 from 3-7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 100 Euclid Avenue, Middletown, NY.
