Obituary for Frederick W. Yearwood
FREDERICK “FRED” YEARWOOD
November 20, 1936 – July 29, 2021
Middletown, New York
Frederick William Yearwood, age 84, passed away July 29, 2021. Fred was born in Cornwall, NY on November 20, 1936. Fred is the son of the late William Yearwood, and late Bernice Wagner, and predeceased by his brother John and sister Eva.
He was married to the love of his life, Alice Brola, on September 12, 1959, fulfilling his wedding vow after nearly 62 years of marriage. Fred loved his family putting it first always. He was a Cub Scout Master, Boy Scout Troop Master, Little League Coach, and Football Coach. He was always the go to guy when anyone needed help.
Fred grew up in the town of Cornwall and left home to join the US Navy in 1954 and served his nation until 1957. He returned home and became a professional firefighter for the City of Newburgh. To better support his family, he moved on to work for the Ford Motor Company in Mahwah, NJ, until the plant was closed and retired from the Ford Motor Company. He then became a NY State Corrections Officer retiring in 1999. After his retirement joined VFW Mount Hope 5497 in Otisville, NY, having served during the Korean War service era on the U.S. Navy Destroyer USS Norris, DD-859.
His joy during the early years of his marriage to Alice was working on Alice’s parent’s dairy farm. Alice’s family embraced Fred and taught him how to hunt and fish as well. Fred fell in love with hunting and fishing. However, there was just one aspect to hunting that Fred could not get accustomed to and that was field dressing the game; got sick as a dog. If he was close to home, he usually handed that duty off to his wife Alice.
Fred is survived by his wife Alice, his four sons, William Yearwood, Lieutenant-Colonel US Army Retired, and his wife Linda, Jeffery Yearwood, Master Sergeant US Air Force Retired, and his wife Glynda, Brian Yearwood and his wife Robyn, and Fred Yearwood Jr. and his wife Sue, along with his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Elizabeth and her son Jackson and daughter Evelyn, Brian and his sons Logan, Wyatt and Colton, David, Melissa, Jenna, Zachary, Meghan, Trisha, Alice and Angelina.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, August 5, from 10 A.M to 12 noon at the Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY, with a Service of Remembrance will take place at 11:30 am. Following the visitation, Burial will take place in the Orange Co. Veterans Cemetery, 111 Craigsville, Road, Goshen, NY.
