Frederic E. Kemp, Sr. of Denville, NJ and formerly of Middletown, NY, died unexpectedly on Friday, June 8, 2012 at St. Clare's Hospital. He was 81.
One of seven children of the late Francis and Emily Reichal Kemp, he was born October 20, 1930 in Queens. He and his younger siblings were raised by Bertha (Betty) and Louis Sibrava who took over their care for their parents. At a young age, Fred became the head of household for his brothers and sisters, which was the start of his long life as a caring, responsible man. He married his wife Shirley in 1952 in Wurtsboro and his deep and abiding love for her spanned over 58 years. He dedicated his life to his wife and cared for supported her during her 10 year battle with lung cancer. Even after Shirley died in 2010 Fred carried his love for her with him; traveling from NJ to NY each Sunday to attend church and visit her grave.
He was currently an active member of St. Paul's Methodist Church in Middletown and a proud member of Local 445.
His family describes him as a doting father and the best Dad ever. He was "Pappy" to his grandchildren, who adored him. He taught his children and grandchildren how Jesus was by his love for his family. He maintained a great sense of humor, and always made a point to entertain the kids. He will missed by his beloved family and his church community.
He is survived by his son, Frederic E. Kemp, Jr. and his wife, Debra of High Point, NC and his daughter, Judi Piacente and her husband, Saverio of Denville, NJ; sister, Helen White of Tucson, AZ; five grandchildren: Vivian and her husband, Joe, Raffaella and her husband, Tino, Frederic III, Garrett and his wife, Michelle, and Emily and her husband, James and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 12 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 13 at the funeral home; Rev. Richard Guice will officiate. Burial will follow in Bloomingburg Rural Cemetery in the family plot.
