Obituary for Frank J. McLean
Frank J. McLean
February 17, 1933-August 18, 2018
Montgomery, NY
Frank J. McLean, an area resident since 1962, died peacefully at home on Saturday, August 18, 2018. He was 85.
The son of the late Francis and Emily Dittes McLean, he was born on February 17, 1933 in Rockville Centre, Long Island, NY. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1953-55 during the Korean War. In February 1957, he married Edith B. Ladmer, just three months after meeting her and they shared 56 happy years of marriage together until her death in 2013. He was an engineer and home builder in this area for many years and then worked for Goodkind and O’Dea until his retirement.
Frank was a wise, witty and intelligent man, though humble and not one to boast. He was a WWII and Civil War buff, and loved history in general. He served as a dedicated volunteer fireman and would even leave a Thanksgiving dinner to respond to a fire call. He was a charter member of Bullville Fire Company and was awarded Fireman of the Year multiple times. Frank was an avid reader, loved to sail, travel and spend time with his family. During their later years, Edith and he were active in the community garden together.
Frank is survived by his son, David McLean of Brooklyn; and daughters, Kathryn A. Valentin, Lisa McLean and her boyfriend, D.J. Horan of Middletown; grandchildren, Krystal, Kyle, Maya, Rebekka, Patrick and Emily.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, with a Firematic Service at 7:30. A Funeral Service in Remembrance will be held at 11 am on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at the funeral home, military honors will follow at the family plot in Brick Church Cemetery in Montgomery, NY.
