Francesco Sgroi died peacefully at home on Wednesday, April 25 with his loving family by his side. He was 53. The son of the late Antonio and Maria Ferranti Sgroi, he was born on May 24, 1958 in Italy.
Frank was a loving husband, father, brother and uncle who valued his family above all else. He was a member of Holy Cross Church in South Centerville and Minisink Kiwanis. He loved animals, was a hard worker and enjoyed hunting.
He is survived by his beloved family, his wife, Sonia Gargiulo Sgroi at home; two daughters, Daniela Flynn and her husband, Tyler of Otisville and Marcella Sgroi at home; his brothers, Maurizio and his wife, Lillian of Staten Island and Giuseppe and his wife, Lora of New Jersey; and his sisters, Maria Sgroi of Long Island and Enza Vivolo and her husband, Joseph of New Jersey. He is also survived by 15 nieces and nephews and one grandnephew and one grandniece.
Visitation hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today, Friday, April 27, 2012 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY, 10940. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at Holy Cross R.C. Church, 626 County Route 22, Middletown, NY 10940. Cremation will be private.
