REVEREND JOHN COLMAN LOGAN, O.CARM. May 15, 1936 - January 2, 2013 Middletown, NY Born in Brooklyn, NY on May 15, 1936; Professed Simple Vows in the Order of Carmelites, on September 15, 1957; Professed Solemn Vows on September 15, 1960; Ordained to the Priesthood on May 27, 1964; Died on January 2, 2013.

Reverend John Colman Logan, O.Carm., a member of the Order of Carmelites of the North American Province of St. Elias, died on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 after a long illness. He was 76 years old.

Father Jack was born in Brooklyn, NY on May 15, 1936 to Michael and Mary (Fahy) Logan. He is survived by three sisters: Margaret Franklin, Anne Corcoran and Bridget Wilson; one brother, Ronald Logan, and fourteen nieces and nephews.

After graduation from Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx in 1954, Father Jack entered the Carmelites in St. Albert’s Junior Seminary in Middletown. He received his habit in the Order of Carmelites, North American Province of Saint Elias in September 1956, when he entered the Carmelite Novitiate in Williamstown, MA and received the religious name of Colman. At the conclusion of his Novitiate year he professed Simple Vows of Obedience, Poverty and Chastity on September 15, 1957. He professed his Solemn Vows on September 15, 1960 and was ordained to the priesthood on May 27, 1964 in Middletown, NY.

He graduated from St. Bonaventure University, Olean, NY with a B.A. and a Masters Degree in Philosophy and English and in 1964 finished his Theology at Whitefriars Hall in Washington, DC.

Father Jack taught English and Theology in Nativity B.V.M. High School in Pottsville, PA (1964-1965), Mount Carmel High School in Auburn, NY (1965-1970), McQuaid Jesuit High School, Rochester, NY (1970-1976), and St. Albert’s Junior Seminary, Middletown, NY (1977-1978), where he was also Principal. Father Jack was Head Catholic Chaplain at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan from 1978-2007.

He also served as Prior at Whitefriars Priory in Rochester, NY and Our Lady of the Scapular-St. Stephen’s Priory in Manhattan. After his retirement in 2007, Father Jack moved to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Priory in Middletown, NY. In September 2011, because of illness, Father Jack moved to St. Albert’s Priory in Middletown, NY, where he resided until his death.

A dedicated, joyful and hard-working Carmelite, Father John Colman Logan, O.Carm. was a professed member of the Carmelite Order for 55 years and a priest for 48 years. He was dearly loved by his family, friends and Carmelite brothers. Cherished by all, he will be greatly missed.
