Florina Schmidt, a young 100 years old, left the physical world on January 8, 2021 for her final journey, She celebrated her 100th birthday in the midst of the Coronavirus, at Montgomery Nursing Home on April 4, 2020, where she was treated like Queen for a Day.

Mom was born on Easter Sunday, April 4, 1920 in Upper Nyack, NY, to Frank and Freda Fasano, one of five siblings. She graduated Nyack High School in 1938 and was a secretary at Lederle Labs in Pearl River, NY, where she met her future husband, John Schmidt. They married on August 11, 1946 and were blessed with two daughters; Catherine and Elizabeth. They resided in Spring Valley, New York, before moving to Maybrook, New York, upon Dad's retirement. Mom was also a nurse's aide at various facilities in Rockland County as well as a clerk at Framer Jones Garden Center in Spring Valley.

Upon Dad's death in 1982, Mom moved to Campbell Hall then Walden, New York, where she resided with her daughter, Elizabeth. Since November 2017, Mom has been a resident of Montgomery Nursing Home, Montgomery, NY. Thank you to the caring staff at Montgomery Nursing Home for your kindness shown to Mom during her stay.

She leaves behind to cherish her memories her daughters, Catherine Malone (Thomas) and Elizabeth Bailey, sister Philomena Scott, grandchildren; Kevin Malone, Erin Kennedy (Shawn), Jennifer McArdle, Meghan McArdle, Christopher "Kit" Bailey as well as several nieces and nephews. Mom believed in family first good long-time friends, honesty and plenty of laughter.

In addition to Dad, Mom was predeceased by her parents, brothers Angelo (Jeanette), Frank (Evelyn) and Phil (Joan), infant sister Fidelma, and brother-in-law Frederick Scott. She was also predeceased by in-laws Joseph and Magdalena Schmidt, brother-in-law Joseph Schmidt, sister-in-law Helen (Peter) Fedorick and nephews Joseph Fedorick and Bobby Fasano. Her friend and soulmate for over 20 years, Sal DiMartino, predeceased her in December of 2016. In addition, she was predeceased by her ex-sons-laws, George Bailey (Christopher's father) and Michael McArdle(Jennifer and Meghan's dad).

Mom wished to be cremated. A Memorial visitation will be held from 10 to 11:30 am on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Service in Remembrance will be held at 11:30 am at the funeral home, her cremains will be interred in the family plot in Oak Hill Cemetery in Nyack, NY at a later date. In lieu of flowers, because of her life long love of animals, Mom wishes memorial donations in her name to be made to the animal shelter of your choice.

A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss. Ah yes, these I too will miss. Be not burdened...deep with sorrow, I wish you sunshine of tomorrow. My life's been full, I've savored mush: Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch. Perhaps my time seemed all too brief, Don't lengthen it now with your grief.
