Obituary for Evelyn P. Allen
Evelyn P. Allen, born September 11, 1937, the daughter of the late Henry Sharp and Dora Rickerd, died on April 19, 2018 at Orange Regional Medical Center. She was 80.
She worked as a nurse’s aide for many years at Sunset Haven Nursing Home before working and retiring from Orange Farms in 1992. One of her proudest moments was receiving her cap as a Sr. Nursing Assistant. After retirement, Mom worked as a rape counselor and would be called to the hospital to help rape victims. When she no longer could drive at night, she volunteered for Hospice from 2005-15, comforting many families as they went through the loss of a loved one. In 2009, her dedication and compassion led her to receive the Hospice Volunteer of the Year Award. She was the financial secretary for both the Daughter's of America and the Red Hat Wild Girls. She was a member of the CSEA, Slate Hill Pacers and Greenville Leisure Club.
Above all, she enjoyed her family. They meant the world to her, she never missed a birthday or anniversary. She sent cards for every occasion. She loved to cook for others and would bake just to give it away.
Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Gladys Muller (Bob) and son David Allen (Barbara); grandchildren, Joanna Muller, Jessica Timmins(John), Sandy Torrance, David Allen (Amanda), Christina Eltz (Erik), Ashley Allen (Andrew), and John Schamarek (Kayla). She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Gabriel Timmins, Joshua, Hailey, and Brantley Allen, Raegan and Otto Eltz, Robert Torrance, Kaila Jones and Jasper Schamarek; and one loving brother Henry Sharp; step sister Dorine Anzoatequi and step brother Robert King.
She was predeceased by her husband Edward Allen, a son Timothy and grandson Joshua.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at the funeral home, burial will follow in the family plot in Manning Cemetery in Greenville.
