Obituary for Evelyn Arturi Tramontano
Evelyn Arturi Tramontano, a longtime resident of Flushing, Queens and recently of Middletown, died on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at Glen Arden Healthcare Center in Goshen. She was 94.

One of eight children born to Francesco and Adelaide Griglioni Arturi, she was born on August 1, 1916 in Brooklyn. Evelyn married Joseph Tramontano on October 23, 1937 in Brooklyn and they raised three children together. She devoted her early career to raising her children and after they were grown, Evelyn worked in the business office of Bloomingdale’s in New York City.

Her life was all about family and her children were the center of her universe. Her entire extended family centered around her. Evelyn kept everyone together, preparing Sunday dinner for her family every weekend. She was a phenomenal cook who prepared simple, traditional Italian, Calabrian foods to share with her family. She was a wonderful mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother. Evelyn was fiercely loyal, and never had an unkind word to say about anyone.

She is survived by her three loving children; Joan Tramontano of Manhattan, Ronald and his wife Jan of Albany, and Diana Legere and her husband Edmond of Venice, FL; one brother, David Arturi, sister Jenny Fairbanks; sisters-in-law, Angie Arturi and Florence Arturi. Evelyn is also survived by her grandchildren, Christine Faga and her husband Angelo, Brian Tramontano and his wife Amelia, Marisa Tramontano and her fiancé David Horowitz and Allison Tramontano and her boyfriend Ryan D’Antonio; and two great-grandchildren, Samuel and Matthew Faga; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to her beloved husband Joseph, she was predeceased by four brothers, Joseph, Vincent , Salvatore and Rudolph and one sister, Antoinette.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1 pm today, Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at the Chapel at Memory’s Garden, 983 Watervliet Shaker Road, Albany, N.Y. 12205. Burial will follow the Service.
