Eugenia Wiecek Mitchell

Eugenia Wiecek Mitchell of Goshen, a lifelong area resident, died Monday, March 20, 2017, surrounded by her family.
Born in Goshen on January 2, 1929 to Joseph and Janina Wiecek, she was 88 years old.
Jean grew up in the black-dirt region of Pine Island, helping her father and brothers on the family onion farm. She married Samuel E. Mitchell on February 13, 1949 and together they raised a family of four. Jean worked side-by-side with Sam in the family grocery store; Clara Hunt's, Clara Hunt and Son, and Sam Mitchell’s Store.
Jean loved to go for walks, usually with one of the family dogs, and work in her flower garden, but mostly paint with watercolors. She was a member of the Middletown Art group where she served as Treasurer and was also on the Board of Directors of River Valley Artists Guild. The family’s homes are filled with her wonderful artwork which they will always treasure.
Jean is survived by her children; Joseph A. Mitchell and his wife Mitzie of Morristown, TN, Jane Sinsabaugh and her husband Theodore of New Hampton, Barbara Kwiecinski and her husband Charles of Johnson, NY; grandchildren, Samuel E. Mitchell III, Keli Faber, Amie Quackenbush, and great-grandchildren Emilia Faber, Victoria Mitchell, Nicholas Faber, and Thomas Quackenbush; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Sam, son Sam, Jr., and brothers, John Wiecek and Stanley Wiecek.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6:30 pm on Friday, March 24, 2017 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Service of Remembrance will be held at 6:30 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Eugenia’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 384 Crystal Run Road, Suite 102, Middletown, NY 10941.
