November 25, 1932 – June 29, 2021
It is with such deep sorrow that we share the passing of Eugene P. Currier, of Middletown, who passed away on June 29, 2021 at the age of 88.
Gene, as he was fondly referred to, exemplified a man of integrity and fairness in all of his endeavors. He was a man of service who gave back to his country, community, charitable and professional organizations. He was a proud Army Veteran of the Korean War, a former Member of the Middletown Parks & Recreation Commission, a Volunteer for Meals on Wheels, a long-time Member of the Elks Lodge # 1097 and Past President of the following organizations: Middletown Lions Club, Orange County Golf Club, Orange County Association of Realtors and the New York State Association of Realtors, just to name a few of his accomplishments.
Along with his acts of service, Gene was also a respected businessman and the founding partner of Coldwell Banker Currier & Lazier Realtors, a successful real estate firm servicing the Hudson Valley for more than forty years. He loved his career as a Realtor and made his mark locally and statewide in the industry. Gene’s other passion was golf, where you would find him on the course early weekend mornings (and even a few days during the week) with his golf buddies. Most of all, Gene loved being a husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Gene is survived by his wife Marie of 64 years of marriage. Anyone who knew Gene was familiar with his three daughters who he often spoke about with love and pride - Lori Currier Woods (Robert), Jana Currier and Lynn Currier Maltz (Mark). He was the proudest Pop-Pop of his eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren: Zachary Woods, Matthew Woods (Jennifer), Callie Woods Savage (Harry), Brent and Bryce Dombal, Billy, Devon and Alexa Maltz, Makenna and Addison Woods. He also leaves behind his brother and best friend Albert Currier, as well as his former son-in-law Kent Dombal, countless nieces, nephews, friends, colleagues and acquaintances he touched along the way.
He is joined in heaven by his beloved grandson Zachary, who he grieved until his last breath. Gene was the youngest of ten children and predeceased by his father and mother, Clarence and Elsie Currier, and siblings Mildred, Howard, Grace, Florman, Charles, Calvin, Lillian, Frank and mother-in-law Sophie Cahill.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 2, 2021 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home in Middletown, NY. A private family burial will take place on Saturday, July 3, 2021 at Saint Joseph’s Cemetery in Middletown, NY.
