Eugene A. Fernandez, a retired corrections officer for Rikers Island Prison, died following a short illness on March 25, 2013 at White Plains Hospital. He was 58.
The son of the late Anthony Fernandez and Patricia Smith Gallagher, he was born on October 7, 1954 in Brooklyn, NY. Eugene liked riding motorcycles, being out on the road. He was a super nice guy, very generous and had a great sense of humor and a good heart. He loved to fix things and was a perennial mechanic. He also was an avid coin collector.
He is survived by his children; Justin and Danielle and his wife Bernice, all of Bloomingburg; loving stepfather, Vincent Gallagher of New Jersey; two brothers, Douglas and his wife Claudia and Kenny, all of Staten Island ; three sisters, Nancy Fratangelo of N.J., Kathy Gallo and her husband Rod and Diane Amatucci and her husband Nick all of Staten Island, NY.
Following cremation, ashes will be interred in the family niche at Greenwood Cemetery.
