Ernest J. Arsenault, “Pépé”, a long time resident of the area, died on Christmas Day at Orange Regional Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was 91.
The son of the late Aurelle and Alma Arsenault, he was born on August 20, 1927 in Tignish, Prince Edward Island, Canada. He moved to New York and married his childhood sweetheart, Dora DesRoches on July 17, 1954. Ernie retired from Ford Motor Company in 1980. He then spent his time working on his houses and helping others with theirs, but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. His family is so thankful that he had the recent opportunity to travel back to PEI with his son Paul and three very close friends that he considered sons: Rich O’Leary, Peter Smith and Paul Smith. While there, he enjoyed eating lobster, listening to Acadian music, visiting with the locals, and reminiscing about growing up in his favorite place on earth.
Ernest is survived by his loving wife, Dora and his five children; Gail and her fiancé Bill, Judy, Paul, Donna and her husband Leon, and Lisa and her husband Travis. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, Ryan and his wife Keri, Brandon, Danny, Lauren, Tyler, Elizabeth, Nicholas, and Sierra, and great-grandson Shawn. He is also survived by siblings Ada, Doreen, Ivan and Clifford as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews here in the U.S. and Canada. He was predeceased by his brother Raymond.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 pm on Friday, December 28, 2018 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 90 Euclid Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. Following cremation, burial of ashes will take place at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Hudson Valley Honor Flight P.O. Box 375, Walden, NY 12586.
