Obituary for Erika Boyle
Erika Boyle, a longtime resident of the region, died after a long and brave battle with cancer at Orange Regional Center in Middletown on July 6, 2017. She was 75.
The daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine Sanwald Schulte, she was born in Queens N.Y. on February 4, 1942 and grew up in Roscoe, N.Y. with her family. She graduated from Roscoe High School and spent many of her childhood memories With her two brothers and many friends. Later in life, she married James J. Boyle and was blessed with a daughter and three step children she inherited through her marriage. She worked with many friends and co-workers at GenPak in Middletown for thirty years and considered them part of her extended family.
Erika was delighted to have thee grandchildren who lived close by and devoted almost all of her retirement time to spending it with them.. She became an avid sports pro and fan as each of them took part in different sports. She never missed one of their games and would cheer from the sidelines . She was encouraging and supportive and everyone knew her as “grandma”. We don’t think any of the other regular spectators knew her given name, she was just like family to everyone.
She was generous and kind, especially with her time. Even as she suffered thru her illness,Erika still made time for her family. When at the end she was confined to bed, she often lamented not being able to go to the kids’ games! We will remember her stamina and positive attitude always. Erika enjoyed life and the gift she was given by God. She savored every moment.
Erika is survived by her loving daughter, Veronica and her husband Ernest DePolito and their children; Matthew, Ernie IV, and Elizabeth all of Greenville, stepdaughter, Theresa and husband Dwayne Miller and children, Josh, Dan and Lauren, and granddaughter Avery, as well as stepson Barry Boyle and his daughter Tina; two brothers, Joseph and Ronald Schulte of Roscoe. Also dear to her was Linda Miraglia and her whole family.
