Emma O'Connell, a certified social worker, died on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at O.R.M.C., Horton Campus. She was 63.
The daughter of the late Frank and Marion Nabholz Gawors, she was born on November 29, 1947 in the Bronx, NY. Emy married Joseph O'Connell on August 17, 1968 in St. Francis DeChantelle in the Bronx, and together, they adopted two children of their own and opened their home to 19 foster children over the years. She was a gentle loving woman of undying faith and courage who was an inspiration to all who knew her. Emy will always remain in our hearts and she reminds us to “keep loving each other and trust in Our Lord Jesus.”
In addition to her loving husband Joe, Emy is survived by her sons, Joseph and his wife Jillian of Highland Mills, Andrew and his wife Tisha of Otisville, Nicholas and Summer of California and Tony and his wife Janet O'Connell of Glen Spey and her daughters, Patti and Merilee both at home. She is also survived by her brothers, Frank Gawors and his wife, Mary Pat and George Gawors; sisters, Lauretta Camardelli and her husband Ralph and Marian Gawors-Piccininni; and nine cherished grandchildren, Joey, Caleb, A.J., Josh, Isabella, Nicky, Dezirae and Katelyn and Kiley, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm on Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 am on Thursday, April 7, 2011at St. Joseph's R.C. Church, 149 Cottage Street,
Middletown. Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Middletown. Arrangements are under the direction of Applebee-McPhillips
