Emelina Gonzalez, a devoted wife, mom, and grandparent, died after a long illness at Valley View Nursing Home. She was 92.
The daughter of Miguel and Jacinta Torres Hernandez, she was born on November 20, 1928 in Havana, Cuba.
Emelina married Jesus Gonzalez on July 19, 1945 and eventually settled in Union City, New Jersey where her daughter Ileana was born. Her other two children Marlene and Michael were born in Havana, Cuba.
She worked in N.Y.C. in the Time Life Building for over thirty years until her retirement in 1991. After her retirement she spent all her time with her family. After her husband’s passing, she moved to Middletown N.Y. to be closer to her family and to help with her grandchildren whom she adored. She loved to cook and was always willing to feed whoever came to her home. She loved to help her son-in-law in his garden tending to the vegetables and herbs. Emelina loved to shop with her friends. She was a beautiful and caring woman who never spoke bad about anyone. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Emelina is survived by her daughters; Marlene Fabregas and her husband Jorge and Ileana Mazzurco and her husband Joseph, her daughter-in-law Charlene Gonzalez, one sister; Mirta Gonzalez and her husband Aquiles, five grandchildren; Jennifer, Lissette, Joseph, Ashley and Emily as well Dylan and Avery (who she recognized as her grandchildren) six great grandchildren; Niko, Brandon, Jaxson, Damien, Greyson and Elizabeth, and her three step grandchildren, Chris, Phil and Tom. In addition, she is survived by her grandchildren’s husbands Chris and Raul and her niece’s husband Robert.
She was predeceased by her husband Jesus in 1993, her son Michael in 2015, her father Miguel in 1983, her mother Jacinta in 2007 and her beloved niece Mirta in 2019.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 21, 2020 from 3-6 p.m. at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc. 130 Highland Ave., Middletown, NY 10940. A Graveside Service will take place on Tuesday, December 22nd at Fairview Cemetery, 500 Fairview Avenue, Fairview, New Jersey, 07022 in the family plot.
