Middletown, NY

Elmer G. Riesel of Middletown, a retired medical research technologist for CIBA-Geigy Corporation, Ardsley, NY now Novartis Corp, died June 18, 2014 at Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown. He was 92 years old.

The son of the late Herman H. and Elsie Schroeder Riesel, he was born on February 7, 1922 in Herkimer, NY. He was a member of AALAS, the American Association of Laboratory Animal Scientists, AARP, and a life member of the D.A.V of America.

Elmer was a World War II Army Veteran, having served as sergeantwith the 454th MPEG Co. He was a graduate of the Occupation Police School Fort Custer, Michigan in 1943, directed by Col. Melvin Purvis. He participated in the Normandy invasion and the battle for Northern France. He received the Good Conduct medal, American Campaign Medal, European American Middle Eastern Campaign medal with Bronze starsw, Meritoruius Unit Citation Emblem, WWII Victory Medal and New York State Conspicuous Service Cross.

Survivors include his wife Grace of Middletown, one daughter of Alice Westwood of Binghampton; one grandsson, William Westwood of Archor, FL; two sisters, Ernestine Paro of NJ, and Elsie Riesel of Ilion, NY; and one brother, Herman Reisel of Centerpoint, LI,NY.

He was predeceased by one brother.

There will be no visitaton. Following cremation, a Graveside Service with Military honors will be held at 1 pm on Monday, June 30, 2014 at Orange County Veterans Cemetery, 111 Craigville Road, Goshen, NY 10924.

Memorial contributions in Elmer’s name may be made to the Disabled Veterans of America.

Arrangements are under the direction of Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc.

There will be no visitaton. Following cremation, a Graveside Service with Military honors will be held at 1 pm on Monday, June 30, 2014 at Orange County Veterans Cemetery, 111 Craigville Road, Goshen, NY 10924.
