Obituary for Ellen Margaret Prystowski

Ellen Margaret Moran Prystowski, loving mother and grandmother, passed away in the early morning hours on April 4, 2024. She was 86 years old.

Ellen, also known as Peg, was born on October 12, 1937, to William and Mildred Eckerson Moran in Middletown, New York.

Ellen met the love of her life, John Prystowski, and they were married and raised 3 children, Lori, John, and Lisa. John and Ellen loved spending time with their children, whether it was sleigh riding on the hill next to our house, ice skating on the pond across the street, where our father would build a fire for all the kids in the neighborhood to keep warm. Ellen always made sure to buy extra hats and gloves for the children who did not have any. Summer was the family favorite, whether it was visiting family, going to a place we called "the river", where our father would fish and our mother would sit in the stream and watch her children swim, or having a barbeque in the backyard, toasting marshmallows and watching the fireflies.

After only 15 years of marriage, Ellen unexpectedly became a widow at the age of 39 when her husband passed. She worked hard to support her young family at Avon and Middletown Psychiatric Center, where she retired from.

Ellen loved to read and we would always find her outside in the summer with her books or sneaking off to the used bookstore.

Ellen's greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren. Ellen would always say that even though her children were grown up with families of their own, they were all "her kids".

Ellen was our foundation, the heart of our family, and loved beyond measure, especially by her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly in return.

She always made sure they got their hugs and kisses along with an "I love you" after a visit or call. When it was time for Birthdays, she was always the first person to call and sing Happy Birthday.

Ellen is survived by her loving children; her daughters, Lori Ussery and Lisa Lucarelli, and her son John Prystowski, and his wife Jennifer. Her cherished grandchildren; Lauren Lucarelli, Linzy Pierre, and her husband Joe, and Emily Prystowski and her partner Robert Rodriguez. She is also survived by her brother George (Junior) Corliss, her step-granddaughters, Daphne Ussery Gahlhoff, and Heather Ussery Rogers, and 4 step-great-grandchildren. Ellen was soon to become a great-grandmother to Bailey, daughter of Linzy and Joe, and a baby boy, the son of Emily and Robert.

Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John, her son-in-law Glenn Ussery, her brothers Joseph Lercara, Robert Lercara, and Michael Moran, and her sisters Jane Walsh and Linda Hughes.

She will always be an inspiration to our lives as we continue to grow and mold our families. She leaves a legacy within us all and will forever be loved and cherished. We will carry her memory within our hearts until we meet again. We take great comfort in knowing that Mom has been reunited with her husband and they have an eternity to love in heaven as their time together on earth was cut too short.

There will be no visitation.
