Obituary for Elizabeth Ruth Kelleher
Elizabeh Kelleher of Middletown, NY, passed away on March 30, 2021, at
the age of 87 at the Valley View Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation,
Goshen, NY. She was born May 16,1933 in Albany, NY, the eldest daughter
of Michael V. Thoma, Sr. and Ruth Pinkerton Thoma. She grew up in
Malden Bridge, NY, and Nassau, NY. Elizabeth was the loving wife of John
Kelleher. She was a devoted mother to her four daughters and a special
“Grammy” to her six grandchildren and great grandaughter.
Elizabeth graduated from Columbia High School, East Greenbush, NY.
She earned her RN from Methodist Hospital School of Nursing, Brooklyn,
NY. While in nursing school, she completed her psychiatric training at
Middletown Psychiatric Center, Middletown, NY.
During her nurse’s training in Middletown, she met John Kelleher. They
were married December 1, 1956, at St. Mary’s Church, Nassau, NY, and
were married for 64 years.
Elizabeth was employed as a nurse at Horton Hospital, Middletown, NY,
before she and John started their family. She also worked as a nurse at
the Home for Aged Women, Middletown.
She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church and participated in the AltarRosary Society and Cursillo. She was a member of the Orange County
Antique Auto Club.
Elizabeth is survived by her husband, John Kelleher; her daughters:
Patricia Fairchild, Linda Kelleher, Theresa Littner (Thomas), and
Madeline Kelleher; her grandchildren: Lyndsay Fairchild, Reese
Fairchild, Tyler Littner (Isabelle), Cosette Littner (Tyler), Blaise
Ferrier (Dylan), Sarah Covert; great-granddaughter Mila Hayden;
brother, Michael Thoma Jr. (Brenda); sister, Ruth Bayne Paris;
brothers-in-law Harold Wagner and William Kelleher Sr; as well as
several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; sisters Marilyn LaCombe and
Beverly Wagner; and brothers in-law Thomas LaCombe and Richard
Paris.
Elizabeth’s family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff
at Valley View, especially the staff on Glenmere Ground.
