Our beloved mother, Elena Bruni, died at Garnet Medical Center in the evening of Saturday September 2, 2023, with her devoted family at her bedside. She was 91.
The daughter of Aurelio and Ines Proia, she was born on October 29, 1931, one of four children in Colli, Frosinone, Provincia Di Monte San Giovanni Campano, Italy.
Elena married her lifelong sweetheart, Aldo Bruni in Italy and emigrated to America in December of 1965. They were blessed with three children from this union. The couple celebrated 50 years of marriage before Aldo’s death in 2005.
She was a woman of faith and one who was dedicated to her family. Each day she could be found in her kitchen preparing meals, tomato sauce and baked goods for them and her many other relatives and friends. An avid gardener, she shared her harvest of vegetables, fruits and flowers with everyone. She was always busy but in her leisure times, would knit and crochet. Our whole family will treasure the many blankets, baby sweaters and other gifts that were made and given by her loving hands. She adored being with her family, and her grandchildren brought her much happiness and wonder as she watched each one grow into the people they are today.
Elena is survived by her loving children; son, Valerio Bruni and his wife, Concettina, daughter, Maria Bruni, son, Amedeo Bruni and his wife Joy, her cherished grandchildren; Elena Domicoli and her husband Daniel, Nicole Manzie and her husband Shawn, Alessio and Lissandra Bruni, as well as 5 precious great grandchildren; Daniel, Marco, Mia, Aleah, Louis, and her sister, Maddalena Roscioli as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Aldo, her sister Maria Proia and her brother Antonio Proia.
Visitation will take place on Friday, September 8, 2023, from 4-8pm at the Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, 130 Highland Ave. Middletown, N.Y.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at St. Joseph’s Church, 149 Cottage Street Middletown N.Y. at 11 am with the Rev. Dennis Nikolic officiating. Entombment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Rt. 9W, Newburgh, N.Y. in the family niche.
